Hi.
Here’s Vendula Šubert (née Maulerová). If I told you ten years ago that I was writing a book — I’m finishing it this year. Thanks for your patience with me.
The book is now going through my last read-through. In a month, my editor Barbora Miklasová and I will start working through it together. It’ll still be a few more months before the Hithit campaign kicks off, which I’ll want to invite you to.

About the book

Kosťa is trying to find meaning in his work. Or at least give some meaning to whatever work he happens to find. Mostly, though, he and whoever’s paying him can’t agree on what that meaning actually is, so in every chapter he goes looking for a new job.
Bára has it figured out: she wants to do science. Instead, she’s watching two small terrors, playing in an amateur orchestra, and tracking down a mysterious man who spent decades anonymously advising the Nobel Committee for Physics.
In a story full of absurd humour, travel across Europe, and the history of actual Nobel laureates, their paths mostly miss each other by a few minutes.
ALEFUJ! is a detective story, a philosophical road movie, and a celebration of curiosity.

Kosťa's Horoscope
This month's horoscope, written by Kosťa, one of the book's narrators.
Kosťa's Verses
Poems Kosťa writes on tissues and toilet paper — so even those activities can be done creatively.
Veronika's Work
Veronika is a side character who's always coming up with poems and songs on ukulele and piano. I might eventually record some of her work myself, on YouTube.
Illustrations on this site are by Anna Jurčiková — a hospital clown, an actress at the Ostrava puppet theatre, and a cimbalom teacher.
Editing the book is being done by Barbora Miklasová.
The cover is still being arranged.
